Dishaa - Tackling change through Innovation

40 future leaders from India and the UK explore the innovation process by tackling the challenge of lowering the cost of heart surgery.

Throughout the upcoming Dishaa course (30 January to 3 February 2011) the 40 participants will aim to meet the challenge set by Dr. Devi Shetty (a member of the Dishaa Advisory Group), to determine what systemic change would be required to make heart surgery at $1,000 USD a possibility.

Martin Kalungu-Banda,  will facilitate the innovation process, following these steps:

  • Stakeholder interviews, dialogue interviews and shadowing, drawing on the Presencing Institute's principles of Theory U
  • Exploring innovation blind spots
  • Determining how other innovators have overcome barriers - hearing from Crispino Lobo, Managing Trustee of the Watershed Organisation Trust
  • Exploring the ingredients of innovation and prototyping, led by Martin Kalungu-Banda
  • Meeting experts in the field of public health, cross-sector partnerships and socio-economic policy and development
  • Visiting organisations related to public health and widespread social and systemic change in Pune, India, including: Shelter Associates (featured in a Google Earth Hero film), Ruby Hall and Corporation Hospital, Tata Chemicals Innovation Centre Cummins Generator Technologies and Advinus Technologies
  • Building innovation models over the course of seven Case Clinics, to present to expert policy makers at a final ChangeLab event on 3 February 2011.

Participants will be documenting their own process and regular updates will be posted on the Dishaa website.
