Organisational benefit of course connections
Chitra Lancelot runs Concerns, which is a
health and education organisation in Bangalore working with
disadvantaged women and children in Bangalore. As a result of
attending a Common Purpose course, the organisation developed and
gained sponsorship for a documentary film to use for
fundraising.
Through the connections made on the course, the organisation
received a donation of 300 blankets and £1,000 (GBP) which will
directly benefit Concern's service users.
Social impact in Chennai
Deepa Muthaiya is the Managing Trustee of the
Dean Foundation (an NGO supporting terminally ill people in
poverty). Sanjay Sood is the Manager of the Taj
Mount Road Hotel. After meeting Deepa on a Common Purpose course,
Sajay now sends all the surplus food from the Taj to the Dean
Foundation to on a daily basis.
Growth of 'Lakshya' vocational development
On completion of a Common Purpose course, Altaf
Merchant lead on a programme called 'Lakshya' (which means
Goal in Hindi) for about 96 participants, most of them falling in
the monthly income group of Rs: 0 to 18,000. This programme enabled
his team to collaborate with other AKDN agencies.
The goal of the programme was to highlight the urgency and raise
awareness of the changing economic conditions in India, and to help
participants move out of their comfort zones and set their 6 - 12
month goals and build on these.
Several people participating in the programme stated that they
had realised their goals and were enrolled in more specific
vocational programmes as a result.
